KM Singapore 2009 -
"Knowledge Economy - Knowledge
Workforce"
Date:
13th – 14th August 2009
(Thursday -Friday)
Venue: Hyatt Hotel
Time: 8.30am - 5.00pm
The annual KM Singapore conference is back! The
theme for this year is Knowledge
Economy - Knowledge Workforce.
As the
pace of knowledge economy intensifies, how can
organisations better prepare in order to ride
the new opportunities, and to capitalise on the
use of knowledge and intellectual capital as
the engines for growth and as their competitive
advantage? Since talents and human capital are
key, what could and should organisations do
more to prepare for the economic up-turn?
The programme on 13 Aug comprises
Guest-of-Honour and keynote speeches,
presentation of KM Excellence Awards 2009, case
studies and discussion forums. A series of
parallel KM workshops will be held the
following day.
KM Singapore 2009 provides the
platform for the KM community in Singapore to
learn and share, and network with one another.
The conference fee is kept at an affordable
rate for members and non-members. Do mark the
dates in your diaries and invite your business
partners along to get connected with the rest
of the KM community and partners.
More details will be provided in the coming
weeks. In the meantime, email your enquiry to

encourage all Singapore-based operations with
established KM efforts to consider submitting a
nomination for an award. We have a very
distinguished international evaluation panel
who will give valuable feedback to all
submissions. Details of the awards process and
submission form can be downloaded from http://www.ikms.org/docs/KM%20Excellence%20Awards%202008%20Full%20Briefing%20Pack.doc

Networking
Evening
We
are planning a series of informal networking
gatherings for our members and friends over
drinks and light food. The first of these will
take place on Friday 4 April from 7pm to
9pm, at BarCelona, 11
Unity Street,
#01-30/31, Robertson
Walk. Tel 62353456.
iKMS
is supporting this event, but we will ask for
contributions towards the drinks and food - $10
for members and $20 for non-members. After 9pm
all items will be on your individual accounts.
There will be finger food, wine, beer, and soft
drinks.
The
informal gathering is a no agenda meeting to
help members socialise and get to know each
other's KM backgrounds and challenges. So for
this first session, we suggest a very broad
topic such as "What is knowledge Management?
How much you know about KM? Do you need KM?"
If you have a burning issue you'd like to
share, bring that as well! Let's put knowledge
management into practice and get some of the
networking benefits of belonging to a
professional society. So we have an indication
of numbers to expect, please drop an email to
< st1:PersonName w:st=on>Kong Heng
Sunat khs08aces@yahoo.com if you
plan to come. Bring a colleague!

RFP for KM
Competencies Research
Project
iKMS
invites interested parties to submit proposals
for a research project to develop a KM
competency framework suitable for KM
professionals in the Singaporeenvironment. The
research project will entail a literature
review of KM competency research and
publications, an analysis of the typical KM
competency needs of KM practitioners in Singapore,
and production of an accessible, easy to use
competency framework document which can be used
by KM practitioners to self-assess their
competency development needs. The project is
pitched at Master's dissertation level, and
there will be an honorarium for the successful
researcher. For more details see the attached
document.
Proposals should be submitted by Friday 6th
July.
Call for authors
for annual iKMS
publication
This
is a call to submit articles for the annual
iKMS book publication, “KNOWLEDGE
MANAGEMENT: SINGAPORE
PERSPECTIVES”
iKMS
published the first “Knowledge
Management: Singapore
Perspectives” in Nov 2006 as the first
in a planned series of annual publications free
to members.
To
be published in Oct 2007, this year's book,
titled “Knowledge Management: Singapore
Perspectives 2007” edited by Kan Siew
Ning, will follow the same theme of looking at
KM in a Singapore perspective - a collection of
about 10 to 12 KM articles, each of about 4000
to 5000 words.
This
year, we welcome KM articles with examples,
stories and anecdotes of actual KM
implementation (i.e. practice-oriented KM
instead of theoretical KM). We also encourage
holistic case studies of completed KM
implementations in organizations – from
awareness to quick wins to strategy to full
implementation.
You
can contribute as an individual author or two
persons can work together to co-write one
article. Those who contributed last year are
most welcome to contribute again. Each author
who has his/her article accepted will receive
10 free copies of the book when it is published
in Oct 2007. The deadlines for submission are
as follows:
1.
Submission of the proposed title and short
synopsis (200 words): 1 July 07
2.
Editor informs you whether the proposed article
is accepted: 15 July 07
3.
Submission of the final draft: 15 August
07
If
you need clarifications, please email Kan Siew
Ning (kansn@yahoo.com).
Submission of synopsis and final drafts are
also to the same email address.

Talk
2:KM in Project Management
Project
management best practices are well documented.
There are also well-known professional
certifications in project management in the
industry. However, at least half of IT projects
either end up being delivered late, exceed the
budget, do not meet the user requirements, and
sometimes all of the above. How can a more
deliberate KM approach be used to ensure more
successful projects? Using anecdotes from 22
years of experience in IT and KM projects, the
speaker will illustrate the role of KM in
project management. This talk will focus on KM
methods, including Nonaka's SECI model, as
applied to project management work at the
tactical level. Strategic frameworks will be
covered in a paper after more research has been
completed.
